I heard at last night's PCC or Phoenix Cannabis Coalition meeting that only 16 groups control all of the medical marijuana dispensaries in Arizona. I think Thomas Meadows was the guy that said it. I think there are around 90 or so medical marijuana dispensaries in Arizona. I think the law which is Prop 203 or the Arizona Medical Marijuana Act limits the number to around 120 dispensaries. I have heard that Demitri Downing's family out of Tucson controls something like 6 of those Arizona medical marijuana dispensaries. So it seems like that figure of 16 groups is reasonable. That would mean each group controls 5 or 6 medical marijuana dispensaries. Wow!!! That certainly sounds like a cartel. And I can now understand why Demitri Downing was lobbying Safer Arizona to write their initiative to include laws that allow the medical marijuana dispensaries to continue their profitable monopoly on growing and selling marijuana.
