A friend received this in an email from the city of Tempe. Sound like the members of the Tempe City Council hate Kolby Granville and are doing the best they can to demonize him.

Personally I think Kolby Granville is a world class jerk, but that doesn't make it right for the city of Tempe to demonize him.

On the same day I received the email, the Arizona Republic also ran an article about Kolby Granville filing a claim against the city of Tempe.

Hmmm ... Sounds like the members of the Tempe City Council are calling Kolby Granville a liar.

Sure Kolby Granville seems like a world class jerk, but I don't have a much higher opinion of the other members of the Tempe City Council that kicked him out of office.

Those guys are Tempe Mayor Mark Mitchell, Tempe Vice-Mayor Lauren Kuby, Jennifer Adams, Robin Arredondo-Savage, Randy Keating, and Joel Navarro.

City of Tempe Statement

Oct. 15, 2019

The City of Tempe has received a Notice of Claim (NOC) from former Council member Kolby Granville that contains false, misleading and potentially defamatory allegations. The receipt of the NOC follows Mr. Granville’s firing from Tempe Preparatory Academy, his voluntary surrender of his Arizona teaching certificate and being actively investigated by the State Bar of Arizona for the same misconduct that resulted in his removal from office.

Mr. Granville’s removal from office in April 2019 was carried out by the City Council according to applicable laws and the City Charter. According to Section 2.07 of the Charter, the Council “shall be the judge of the election and qualifications of its members …” and, according to Section 2.06, “may remove a Councilmember, by affirmative vote of five of seven Councilmembers, with due process and clear and convincing evidence, for unlawful conduct involving moral turpitude, fraud or corruption.”

The city strongly urges members of the public and media outlets not to repeat specific allegations against the Mayor and Councilmembers that are potentially defamatory in nature.

The City of Tempe will vigorously defend against these allegations if they appear in the form of an actual lawsuit. It does not intend to publicly address each false allegation in the Notice of Claim or answer individual questions.

First, I never have liked Kolby Granville. He seems like a world class *sshole and jerk. Kolby Granville seems to have the ability to p*ss off just about everybody he deals with.

On the other hand, I do think Kolby Granville got railroaded by the other members of the Tempe City Council when they kicked him off of the Tempe City Council.

The Tempe City council put an initiative on the ballot which when passed by the voters gave them the power to kick Kolby Granville off the Tempe City Council.

Then after the voters passed the law the first thing they did was vote to kick Kolby Granville off of the Tempe City Council.

I think the members of the Tempe City Council that kicked him off were Tempe Mayor Mark Mitchell, Tempe vice Mayor Lauren Kuby, Jennifer Adams, Robin Arredondo-Savage, Randy Keating and Joel Navarro.

Sure I think Kolby Granville is a world class *sshole, but that didn't make it right for the other members of the Tempe City Council to kick him off.

Ex-Tempe Councilman Kolby Granville files notice of claim against city

Ousted Tempe City Councilman Kolby Granville has filed a notice of claim against the city.

The city said in a statement posted to its website on Tuesday that it received Granville's notice of claim "that contains false, misleading and potentially defamatory allegations."

"The City of Tempe will vigorously defend against these allegations if they appear in the form of an actual lawsuit," the city said.

A copy of the claim, which is a precursor to a formal lawsuit, was not immediately available. The Arizona Republic has filed a public records request for the document.

The city said it would not publicly address the allegations made in the notice of claim or answer further questions from the media.

Granville did not provide comment.

Granville, a two-term councilman, was removed from office in April after an independent investigator hired by the city found that Granville violated the city's conduct rules after he was accused of providing minors with alcohol and making unwanted sexual advances toward two women.

He has denied the allegations and was never charged with a crime.
